Bernard Pollard debuts as inventor, businessman

Bernard Pollard: Hard-hitting Tennessee Titans safety. Enemy of the state of Massachusetts. Bourgeoning inventor and entrepreneur?

Pollard is the inventor of the Smart Tray, a contraption that fits over a bathroom sink and can serve as a platform for your toiletry products. Pollard got the idea after years of experience in cramped hotel bathrooms.

The Smart Tray is the first product developed and placed on the market by Pollard's Style Pro 31 company. That 31, of course, being a reference to the safety's uniform number.

"I wanted to take advantage of the thoughts running around in my head," Pollard told Shutdown Corner's Kristian Dyer. "I see so many things where people come out with different products and inventions and I thought about some of that stuff, so I was like, 'Let's move on to the next thing,' and this was it."

Pollard, 29, says more products will come with time. The Smart Tray hit the market after a two-year process of meetings, mock-ups and legal paperwork.

"I have so many different ideas in my head, so many different things I have written down," Pollard said. "I want to be my own boss. I sort of am right now but I'm under a general manager, head coach and owner.

"I thank God I can play this game. But I want to be able to create jobs. I want to be able to help people, help people in America work, get jobs, provide for their families."

Sounds like an admirable plan to us. Potentially profitable, too.
