New Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is a strong supporter of Coyle's, according to the source. The move also signals the end of Todd Bowles, who was Miami's defensive backs coach, then went 2-1 as interim coach after Tony Sparano was fired.

Coyle has coached the Bengals' secondary for nine seasons and worked under Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, who was linked to the Dolphins' head-coaching job before Philbin was hired.
