Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith believes injured running back Matt Forte will return this season. But exactly when is another question.
Smith confirmed earlier reports during his weekly Monday news conference that Forte suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee during Sunday's 10-3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. But Smith refused to put any timetable on Forte's return.
"As far as when, I'll just say we're still evaluating him," Smith said. "He looked pretty good this morning. ... There is concern."
Smith had confirmed following Sunday's loss that Forte suffered a sprained knee when he left the game in the first quarter. Without Forte, the Bears will continue to rely on Marion Barber and Kahlil Bell.
Smith also said that safety Major Wright suffered a sprained shoulder against the Chiefs, but didn't know when he would be able to return.
