Ronnie Stanley might not have been the first choice for the Baltimore Ravens at No. 6 overall, but he has a chance to be their left tackle for a very long time.
Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome admitted after the draft that the team tried to trade up to the No. 4 spot to pick up cornerback Jalen Ramsey, but the Cowboys didn't want to move. Ramsey went fifth to the Jaguars. NFL Media's Aditi Kinkhabwala also reported that the Ravens had tackle Laremy Tunsil higher on their draft board than Stanley before taking Tunsil off the board following his pre-draft bong rip video.
The Ravens denied that report, but Stanley and Tunsil are inevitably going to be compared throughout their careers. Stanley will have to prove he has the power to hold up as an NFL starter, but he has excellent feet and pass protection skills. The Ravens have said that he will battle veteran Eugene Monroe for the Week 1 starting job. It's Stanley's job to win; the only question is when he'll take over.
The Ravens also announced they've agreed to terms with cornerbackJerraud Powers. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported it was a one-year, $1.75 million contract, according to a source involved with the deal. Powers adds starting experience from Arizona to the Ravens' secondary. The team also waived defensive end Nordly Capi, defensive back Nick Perry and defensive back Jermaine Whitehead.
