Baltimore Ravens ask Lardarius Webb to take pay cut

The Baltimore Ravens are asking Lardarius Webb to take a pay cut.

In an expected move, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Ravens have approached the veteran cornerback about a reduction of his 2015 salary. Webb is scheduled to earn $8 million in the fourth year of a six-year deal signed in 2012.

Rapoport reports it's unclear what Webb will decide.

The Ravens won't have an obvious decision if Webb rejects the request. Webb carries a hefty $12 million cap hit for the 2015 season -- the third-highest figure on the team -- though the Ravens would save just $2 million in cap space if they release him before June 1.

Webb, who turns 30 in October, is coming off a season in which a back injury cost him all of training camp and three games of the 2014 season. His play improved after a slow start, but his price tag might no longer be commensurate with his production.

If Webb balks at a pay cut and the Ravens sever ties, they could be active in free agency. Byron Maxwell, Brandon Flowers, Kareem Jackson and Chris Culliver are the top four corner options on the board in our top 101 free agents list.
