Anthony Spencer misses Cowboys practice with injury

The Dallas Cowboys' defensive line continues to be a place of disconcerting news in the nascent stages of training camp.

On Sunday, key reserve Tyrone Crawford was lost for the year after tearing his Achilles tendon. On Monday, starting defensive end Anthony Spencer was forced to sit out practice after he aggravated a bone bruise in his left knee.

Spencer felt pain in the knee during a conditioning run Saturday. He didn't take part in team drills Sunday and underwent an MRI later that night that confirmed the bruise.

"It's concerning to me," Spencer said, according to ESPNDallas.com. "It's bothering me right now. I really don't know what else to do, so I'm taking it day by day."

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett painted a more positive picture in his meeting with reporters.

"We don't think it's severe," Garrett said of Spencer, who had 11 sacks last season and is playing under the team's franchise tag. "We'll just come up with what we think is the best option here in the next few days."

If Spencer is forced to miss extended time -- surgery has not been ruled out -- there will be cause for alarm on the D-line depth chart. There's simply not a lot behind the starters, and there are legitimate durability concerns about Spencer, DeMarcus Ware and Jay Ratliff.
