It looks like we have our latest preseason Super Bowl guarantee.
This one comes to us from Giants running back Andre Williams, who told The New York Post on Monday that the Giants should expect to be playing in San Francisco this February.
"It's a new year, we're setting new goals, we're trying to make it to the Super Bowl," Williams said. "Not trying, we're going to the Super Bowl."
He added: "To try to do something is different than to do something. Trying doesn't necessarily solidify your intent. But if you're doing something then you're gonna get it done."
As a primer, Williams is one of the league's most thoughtful young players. This is not your standard let's look at this headline and shout kind of story.
What Williams is truly saying is that he's not allowing doubt to creep in. Doubting that his team could make the Super Bowl is on par with physically preventing his team from reaching the Super Bowl.
He is firmly on one side of an argument surrounding the Giants this offseason. Heading into their preseason slate, they have to be one of the most polarizing teams in football.
The team has a Green Bay-style offense with two of the league's best wide receivers and a top-12 quarterback. However, one of those receivers, Victor Cruz, is coming back from a torn patellar tendon. There's also an offensive line situation that is shaky at best and a defense missing by far its best player in Jason Pierre-Paul.
Then again, the Giants teams that have won the Super Bowl have done it as underdogs, which speaks to the culture Tom Coughlin can instill if he has a group of believers.
Count Andre Williams among them.
