Adrian Peterson sits out Minnesota Vikings practice

Adrian Peterson did not practice Wednesday for the Minnesota Vikings.

Debate: Players who could coach

The running back was on the field watching for a short period of time about midway through practice, however he later left the field.

But by all accounts the Vikings want Peterson back on the field. Quarterback Christian Ponder said he believes Peterson will break the single season rushing yards record this year -- a feat he came nine yards short of accomplishing last season.

The Vikings believe about 24 to 25 touches would be ideal for the 2012 NFL MVP.

Defensive end Jared Allen also wasn't on the field, instead working out inside. The four-time All-Pro did make an appearance toward the end of practice, but only watched.
