2025 NFL schedule release: Super Bowl champion Eagles to kick off season vs. Cowboys on Sept. 4

  • WHERE: Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia)
  • WHEN: Week 1 | Sept. 4 | 8:20 p.m. ET
  • HOW TO WATCH: NBC, Peacock, Telemundo, Universo, NFL+

After sweeping the Dallas Cowboys on their way to a division title and eventual triumph in Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles are hosting their bitter rivals on the same night they raise their second banner.

Philadelphia will open the 2025 NFL season against Dallas on Thursday, Sept. 4 in the NFL Kickoff Game.

It's the latest chapter in a longstanding conflict between the two NFC clubs, and perhaps one of the more interesting tests of a rivalry. The Eagles enter the new season in the afterglow of a dominant Super Bowl performance, but with a number of new faces replacing those who cashed in on the playoff success and signed elsewhere in 2025. They're the kings of the NFL world at the moment, while Dallas has quietly put together an offseason that should position them to contend in 2025, a goal they'll only meet by proving themselves against the best.

Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott are among the mainstays who know this rivalry well, but aren't too familiar with meeting this early in the season. This will be the two sides' first September meeting since 2021 and their first Week 1 encounter since 2000 (a 41-14 Eagles win).

Prescott owns a 2-1 record in head-to-head meetings with Hurts, a matchup that is unusually infrequent when considering they call the same division home. Prescott and/or Hurts has missed seven of 10 potential meetings due to injury or rest.

As Super Bowl champions, the Eagles will embark on a rigorous journey through the 2025 season. They have 11 games versus 2024 playoff teams and will meet every team they defeated in the playoffs at least once in 2025. None of those games include matchups with the Cowboys, whom they'll see twice per usual in the new campaign.

History appears to be on their side. Defending Super Bowl champions are 20-5 in Week 1 since the 2000 season, and the Eagles won in Week 1 of the 2018 season after raising their Super Bowl LII banner.

They'll have a chance to flaunt their success with their rivals in the building. Dallas will be planning on preventing more of it in 2025.

The NFL will unveil the entire 2025 schedule at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday on NFL Network, NFL.com, the NFL app and NFL+.
