As Bruce Allen toured his team's new under-construction training camp site in Richmond, Va., the Washington Redskins general manager drew an analogy to his on-the-mend quarterback, Robert Griffin III.

"It's great to hear the building is on schedule, ahead of schedule, and I've heard all those same phrases for our quarterback," Allen told reporters Monday, via The Washington Post. "It's too early to tell right now. He is doing everything that the doctors want him to do. He's a great worker. I think that's why there's so much optimism that he'll be ready at the beginning (of training camp). But it's really too premature to speculate on where his medical condition is until we give him a physical when training camp starts July 25."
Griffin's dad said last week that his son has been throwing the ball since April and was doing "extremely well as far as the time table" after January surgery to repair the torn anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments in his right knee.
The second-year quarterback has targeted Washington's season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles as a return date, but Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has insisted Griffin won't rush back. Washington opened organized team activities Monday, and Allen told reporters they can judge RG3's progress for themselves at this week's media-friendly session.

"You'll get to see when you all come out there on Thursday," Allen said. "He's been doing a lot of drill work on his own with the other injured players. He has to just follow the doctors' and the trainers' advice on a daily basis."
Griffin is a solid bet to begin training camp on the team's active/physically unable to perform list, but where he begins the season is anyone's guess.
Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles roared back to life last season on the heels of major knee operations, and there's no reason to doubt Griffin's ability to do the same.
