Tyler Wilson signed to Oakland Raiders' practice squad

There was a time when the Oakland Raiders believed Tyler Wilson was a realistic option at quarterback. On Monday, the Raiderssigned him to their practice squad.

Wilson was cut Sunday. One day later, the 2013 fourth-round draft pick passed through waivers unclaimed. Former NFL scout John Middlekauff appropriately summed it up:

It's been that type of summer for Wilson, who struggled in all aspects of the game as he fell behind Terrelle Pryor, Matt Flynn and fellow rookie Matt McGloin. Wilson -- a subject of conversation in the latest "Around The League Podcast" -- now will have to settle for the practice squad.

As for matters related to the Raiders' 53-man roster, coach Dennis Allen told reporters Monday that he wouldn't announce the Week 1 starting QB for "competitive reasons."

However, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport -- citing a source informed of the move -- reported Monday night that Raiders coaches have informed players that Pryor will start Sunday. Rapoport said Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson has taken a liking to the second-year pro.

Playing behind a leaky offensive line, Pryor's mobility gives the Raiders their best chance to win on a weekly basis.
