New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin made a bold statement Tuesday that really wasn't that bold.
"We have to win literally every one of our games," Coughlin said, the Star-Ledger's Jenny Vrentas reported. "That's how I look at it."
That's how the Giants should look at it if they want to defend their Super Bowl title. The Giants are 7-5 with a one-game lead on the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. In a tight NFC, there's not much wiggle room. The Giants, and every other team, could easily be sitting at home if they don't win their division.
New York, arguably, has the toughest finish of the NFC East teams. They host the always dangerous New Orleans Saints this week then travel to the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens before hosting the Philadelphia Eagles in the season finale. The Redskins host the Ravens, travel to the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia, and host the Cowboys in Week 17. Those Cowboys travel to the Cincinnati Bengals this week, then host the Pittsburgh Steelers and Saints before wrapping up in Washington D.C.
There's no leeway in that division. The Giants better plan to win every game.
