Ten days after veteran guard Brandon Moore chose retirement over a one-year contract with the team, it appears free-agent guard Brian Waters won't be joining the fun, either.
"We've kind of moved on from there, for the time being,"Cowboys executive vice president/COO Stephen Jones said Saturday, per The Dallas Morning News.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport told Around The League that the pursuit of Waters is viewed as dead, according to a source involved in the situation. But that doesn't mean Waters wants to end his career. A source in regular contact with the player told Rapoport that the guard definitely would play if the situation was right.
Dallas is dangerously thin along its interior line. Left guard Ronald Leary is out for at least two weeks after undergoing a knee scope Friday, and Nate Livings will miss the rest of the preseason with a knee injury of his own. That leaves Mackenzy Bernadeau at right guard with David Arkin manning the left side.
