Ryan Lilja released by Denver Broncos after short stint

Ryan Lilja came out of retirement to sign with the Denver Broncos and reunite with Peyton Manning in search of a second Super Bowl ring.

Teams had until 6 p.m. ET on Saturday to reduce their rosters to a maximum of 53 players. Who was cut?

The reunion was short-lived and didn't end happily as the Broncos have cut the veteran offensive lineman, NFL.com Ian Rapoport reported Saturday. The team later confirmed the transaction.

Lilja joined the Broncos after the team's two starting center options -- J.D. Walton and Dan Koppen -- had their seasons ended by injury. Lilja dealt with knee issues and couldn't beat out Manny Ramirez for the starting job.

It's likely the end of the road for the former Colts and Kansas City Chiefs guard who enjoyed some stalwart seasons with Manning in Indianapolis, including their 2006 Super Bowl run.
