Rob Gronkowski won't play for New England Patriots

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski's recovery from a broken forearm has progressed over the last week. He first practiced last Friday, and he has continued to work in a limited fashion throughout this week.

But he's still not ready to return to the field.

A league source told Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe that Gronkowski, who's officially questionable, will not play this week because of his injury. NFL.com's Albert Breer reported the Patriots have planned to give Gronkowski another week to rest as he works his way back from the injury, according to a source apprised of his condition.

Breer previously reported Gronkowski could return for the regular-season finale against the Miami Dolphins, giving him one final tune-up before the playoffs. That still looks like the way the team will go, and Gronk should see action in Week 17.

The Patriots, ornery after a loss on "Sunday Night Football," head to Jacksonville this week to face the two-win Jaguars. It's been comical this week hearing Bill Belichick talk up Chad Henne as the next Dan Marino. We don't envy the Jaguars in this spot.
