Plaxico Burress: Mark Sanchez will be a 'good' Jets QB

One day after Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith verbally dismantled Mark Sanchez, a former teammate of the New York Jets quarterback galloped in on a white horse.

Pittsburgh Steelers pass-catcher Plaxico Burress stepped forward Friday to insist that Sanchez has brighter days ahead.

Schein: Jets have to start Geno

David Garrard's out. Who will the Jets turn to at QB? Forget about Mark Sanchez, Adam Schein says, and roll with Geno Smith. **More ...**

"I think he will turn the corner and become a good quarterback in the league," Burress told SirusXM NFL Radio, per Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. "... I've said that from day one. But he has to just go out and put it together. I believe that he will."

Smith on Thursday told WFNZ-AM: "He sucks. I wouldn't let Mark Sanchez throw me a paper bag sandwich."

But Burress allowed Sanchez to throw him 45 passes for 612 yards and eight touchdowns in 2011. His defense of the quarterback came during a conversation in which Burress also revealed that he's set to unveil a new line of men's designer socks.

We'll let you decide what's more absurd: Burress-inspired menswear or the choking, national drama surrounding Sanchez's spiraling career.
