NFL fines Kyle Shanahan $25K for berating official

The NFL waited a full week before announcing fines for Denver Broncos coaches John Fox and Jack Del Rio for their treatment of replacement officials last Monday night in Atlanta.

The league is acting quicker following incidents with officials in a wild Week 3.

NFL.com and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has been fined $25,000 for berating officials in Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to a source who has spoken with the coach.

NFL.com and NFL Network's Albert Breer reported there will be no fine for Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, who made contact with an official while attempting to call a timeout during the team's 31-30 win Sunday night against the New England Patriots. The league appears to have gone along with the coach's contention that the contact was inadvertant.

There's no word yet on potential discipline for New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who attempted to grab an official moments after the Patriots' loss. Belichick claims he was merely attempting to get the official's attention after Ravens kicker Justin Tucker's booted the game-winning field goal.

It should be an extremely busy week for a league office that must sort through an avalanche of comments and tweets related to the Seattle Seahawks' controversial win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday night. Earlier Tuesday, the league suspended Denver Broncos linebacker Joe Mays for his hit on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub.

UPDATE: The NFL confirmed Wednesday that Shanahan was fined $25,000 and Harbaugh wasn't punished. The league also announced that Belichick was fined $50,000 for his actions.
