New York Giants, Washington Redskins get into scuffle

There was a ton on the line in Monday night's NFC East clash between the Washington Redskins and New York Giants. The game included the requisite amount of big hits on both sides, so it shouldn't be a huge surprise that we saw a fight.

After Redskins running back Alfred Morris fumbled the ball midway through the third quarter of his team's 17-16 victory, half of both squads' 53-man rosters jumped on a pile to get the ball. Giants defensive lineman Linval Joseph naturally tried to get Redskins offensive lineman Will Montgomery off the pile -- by treating him like a Thanksgiving turkey that he was hungry to destroy.

Joseph partially stomped Lichtensteiger while he was on the ground, and it could have been worse if the better part of discretion didn't get to him as he was coming down with his foot. Joseph was penalized 15 yards, but that was mitigated by an offsetting penalty on the Redskins later in the fracas.

Joseph told USA Today after the game that Montgomery "kicked me in the nuts."

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan wouldn't say much about the fracas because he didn't want to be fined after a win.

"It is what it is," he said.

December. NFC East. Redskins-Giants. Manning-Griffin. We could get used to this.
