The NFL announced Monday that Jerome Felton has been suspended without pay for the first three games of the 2013 regular season for violating the NFL's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse. The exact violation was Felton's arrest last summer on a charge of driving while impaired, later reduced to reckless driving, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported, per a person informed of the suspension.
Another reason for the three games, Rapoport reported, was because of Felton's previous DWI charge four years ago.
Felton re-signed with the Vikings this offseason for three years and $7.5 million. He underwent an emergency appendectomy earlier this month and wasn't going to play again in the preseason. The Vikingsplay the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bearson the road to start the season before a home opener against the Cleveland Browns.
