Mick Tingelhoff named Seniors Committee nominee

Longtime Minnesota Vikings center Mick Tingelhoff is one step closer to making the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The Seniors Committee chose Tingelhoff as their nominee Wednesday after meeting in Canton, Ohio. His candidacy will be presented to the full selection committee, along with 15 modern-era finalists, on Super Bowl Sunday. Tingelhoff will require an 80 percent vote to be elected, like everyone else.

Ray Guy and Claude Humphrey were both elected to the Hall of Fame this year as Seniors Committee nominees. But the Hall of Famedecided to add a special "contributors" category to the mix this year, limiting the Seniors Committee to only one nominee.

History tells us that Tingelhoff has a great chance to make the Hall of Fame, like most Seniors Committee nominees. He made six Pro Bowls, with five first-team All-Pro appearances in a 17-year career. He started in 240 consecutive games throughout his career, all for the Vikings.
