Speculation about if Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick would keep his starting job began almost the minute Andy Reid ended his news conference announcing the firing of defensive coordinator Juan Castillo last week.
Reid is 13-0 coming off a bye week during his tenure in Philadelphia, and Vick said Monday that he wasn't concerned about his status on the Eagles.
"It was never a time when I didn't know whether I was going to be the starter or not," Vick said, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Quite frankly, I know what I can do when I'm out there, and I know what has to happen when I'm out there on the football field. That's just my approach now, to go out there and get the job done. We'll see what happens."
Vick's dynamic ability isn't in question, however, his ability to hold onto the ball is.
Through six weeks Vick has thrown eight interceptions and has lost five fumbles.
The 11-year pro consistently has had turnover troubles, even during his time with the Atlanta Falcons, averaging one a game for his career.
Eagles fans wish he'd stick to that average. He's turning the ball over at a rate of 2.17 times a game this season, many coming in drive-killing situations.
Even with all the turmoil, the Eagles still sit at second in the NFC East at 3-3, and Vick doesn't seem to have lost the faith of his teammates.
"I'm not sure anybody in the locker room was wondering that," running back LeSean McCoy said. "We all pretty much knew that Mike was the quarterback. He's our guy and he's our leader."
