Michael Vick, Nick Foles will split first-team reps Friday

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly warned reporters not to read too much into his choice for the team's starting quarterback in the preseason opener. He's making that easy to do by splitting up first-team reps.

Michael Vick will start against the New England Patriotson Friday, but he will alternate with Nick Foles during the first quarter. Kelly's words hinted at both quarterbacks seeing multiple series with the starting unit, which is more action than some starters get in the first preseason game. Matt Barkley will play in the second and third quarter.

Kelly also said Thursday that Vick only is going first because it's his turn in the quarterback rotation. Foles will start in Week 2 of the preseason. Even though most observers expect Vick to win the job, Foles' status as next week's starter shows that Kelly won't officially make his decision for a while. Kelly also made some interesting announcements about the Eagles' starting lineup at other positions. Brandon Boykin and Bradley Fletcher will start at cornerback, with Patrick Chung and Nate Allen starting at safety. (That puts Kenny Phillips on the bench.)
