Mario Manningham battling to make Giants' roster

The New York Giants are returning to the site of Mario Manningham's greatest NFL reception -- his over-the-shoulder grab that helped to propel Big Blue to the Super Bowl XLVI win -- when they visit the Indianapolis Coltson Saturday.

The difference this time around is that Manningham is fighting for a roster spot.

"There's always competition," Manningham said, per "This isn't the 1960s. There are going to be wide receivers out there. We're not just going to run the ball the whole game. So I'm just going to do what I've got to do, which is just make plays."

Manningham spent two injury-plagued seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before rejoining the Giants this offseason. Manningham said he is healthy, but according to reporters the 28-year-old lacks speed and explosiveness.

Manningham is behind Victor Cruz, Rueben Randle, rookie Odell Beckham and battling youngsters Marcus Harris and Corey Washington (two game-winning touchdown grabs thus far in the preseason) for playing time.

"I'm not worrying about that," Manningham said. "I'm just going out and controlling what I can control. I'll leave it up to the coaching staff to decide."
