Lions' Mikel Leshoure reportedly would welcome trade

If Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson is working the phones to acquire a running back, his next call should be to the Detroit Lions.

Banished to the inactive list for Sunday's 25-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Lions tailback Mikel Leshourewould welcome a trade to a team that would put him to use, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday, per a source.

In Reggie Bush and Joique Bell, Detroit is blessed with two of the NFL's most effective pass-catching backs in its aeronautical offense. Leshoure believes his skill set is a better fit on a team that relies more heavily on the run.

While advanced surgical techniques and accelerated rehab schedules have allowed other players to recapture pre-injury form, the No. 57 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Drafthasn't been the same player since rupturing his Achilles tendon two years ago.

The Colts make sense as a potential landing spot, but the Lions might be reluctant to surrender their depth at the position. Bush's knee injury Sunday is another reminder that he's never been a durable workhorse.

The Denver Broncos provide a handy example for Leshoure and the Lions. Knowshon Moreno was in a similar predicament as an early-season pariah in 2012, only to take over the backfield when Willis McGahee went down with a serious injury.
