Kellen Winslow and the New York Jets were a marriage that made too much sense not to happen. On Friday, it happened.
The New York Jets signed Winslow to a one-year contract, the team announced. Winslow had a three-day tryout with the team earlier this week. Financial terms were not disclosed. It previously was reported that the Jets were likely to sign Winslow.

Winslow was productive as recently as 2011, but he was so ineffective in his time with the Seattle Seahawks last training camp that he didn't make the team. After appearing in only one game with the New England Patriots, it appeared that Winslow's eight-year career could be over. He's always been a tough player, but countless knee surgeries seemed to catch up to him. But the Jets' pressing need at the position and his desire to keep playing led to this move.
Winslow and Jeff Cumberlandaren't exactly an answer to the Patriots' Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez, but at least this signing adds a name to the mix that quarterback Mark Sanchezshould recognize.
