Josh Cribbs reportedly close to contract with Cardinals

Free-agent wide receiver Josh Cribbs is close to a move to the desert.

The former Cleveland Browns standout flew to Arizona to meet with the Cardinals on Sunday night, take a physical and possibly sign with the team on Monday, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer.

Cribbs' exit from the Browns has been expected for several weeks. The receiver tweeted out thanks and "blessings" to the city late last week, hinting he was deep in talks with another team. And a source told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport last Wednesday that Cribbs had decided to go to the Cardinals.

The Cardinals were one of five teams that reportedly expressed interest in Cribbs before free agency opened.

In his eight seasons on the Browns, Cribbs never became dynamic as a receiver. His role was heavily reduced last season when he had only seven receptions. Still, he went to two Pro Bowls as a returner and can contribute as a Wildcat runner.

With Patrick Peterson already entrenched on punt returns, Cribbs' value is slightly diminished on the Cardinals. However, Cardinals coach Bruce Arians needs playmakers, and given the right situation, Cribbs still can make plays with the ball in his hands.
