Jim Harbaugh 'very pleased' with Blaine Gabbert

Coach Jim Harbaugh acknowledged last Friday that his quarterback depth chart is fluid following a nightmarish performance by Blaine Gabbert in his San Francisco 49ers' preseason debut.

With a week to stew on it, Harbaugh now says he is "very pleased" with Gabbert's performance so far.

"He had a couple very good throws," Harbaugh said Friday, via CSN Bay Area. "He missed a couple, as we said right after the game. It was a good first step, and he's continuing to compete well. I thought he did in the game and continued to do that in the process of the preseason and training camp. (I) feel good about the way he's coming along."

Gabbert's passer rating in the preseason opener was 1.7, just a notch below his average yards per attempt of 1.8.

The 49ers surrendered a sixth-round pick for the opportunity to turn his career around on a guaranteed salary of $2 million this season.

Even if the experiment is off to a rocky start, Harbaugh isn't ready to throw in the towel. The organization has too much invested.
