Jets sign Randy Bullock, put Nick Folk on IR

The frisky New York Jets don't plan to battle Rex Ryan's Buffalo Bills without a kicker on Thursday night.

Gang Green signed former Texans leg Randy Bullock to replace Nick Folk, who bowed out of Sunday's win over the Jaguars with a right quadriceps strain. The Jets placed Folk in injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Switching out Folk for Bullock is a mess for New York. A fifth-round pick of the Texans in 2012, Bullock was waived in September after a shaky start to the season. Always an up-and-down performer in Houston, he missed 4 of 5 kicks from 50-plus yards in 2013 before bouncing back to hit 30 of 35 kicks overall last season.

Houston ran out of patience with Bullock after he missed a 43-yarder and an extra point in a Week 3 win over the Bucs. We expected him to earn another shot -- and here it is, with the potentially playoff-bound Jets.
