Jason Smith signs contract with New York Jets

Released by theNew Orleans Saints on Wednesday, offensive tackle Jason Smith will live to disenchant another NFL coaching staff.

Smith, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, signed with the Jets on Friday morning. The New York Post first reported the move Thursday.

Smith played the swing tackle role for the Jets last season after coming over from the St. Louis Rams in a late August trade. With a new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach this year, Smith will have to make a positive impression over the next couple of weeks to keep his roster spot.

It doesn't bode well that Smith couldn't last through the summer on a Saints team that's accepting casting calls at left tackle.
