Jake Scott, Detroit Lions reach one-year contract

For the second time in as many days, the Detroit Lions signed an offensive guard.

Jake Scott signed a contract with the Lions Tuesday, according to his agent. The 10th-year player filled in the final seven games with the Philadelphia Eagles last season after Danny Watkins went down with an injury.

The Lions' official website reported it was a one-year contract.

On Monday, the Lions agreed to terms with guard Leroy Harris. If that transaction signified unsettlement with current pieces on the offensive line, Tuesday's move underscored and bolded that thought.

Scott and Harris each provide a veteran presence and add depth to the unit. Both moves might signal that the Lions aren't ready to hand the spot off to rookie Larry Warford, who was slotted at right guard.

The Lions' offensive line has been the biggest question mark heading into the offseason, after the team lost both tackles -- Jeff Backus (retirement) and Gosder Cherilus (free agency) -- and cut right guard Stephen Peterson.

This news does nothing but bolster the idea that the Lions' offensive line could be patchwork the entire season. That might put a damper on Reggie Bush's claim that the Lions should have the league's No. 1 offense.
