Holding court with reporters while cleaning out his locker at season's end free-agent guard Andy Levitre made it clear that he would shop for the best offer on the market this offseason.
Toiling in the relative anonymity of Buffalo, Levitre has yet to earn a Pro Bowl berth in four seasons with the Bills. Highly regarded by personnel executives around the NFL, however, he's expected to be one of the hottest free agents available.
The Tennessean has been dropping hints left and right that the Tennessee Titans will be aggressive in leading the chase once Levitre comes out of the free agency gates on Tuesday.
Reliable Titans beat writer Jim Wyatt was willing to give "even money" Friday night that general manager Ruston Webster's first phone call at midnight would go to Levitre's agent. By Saturday afternoon, Wyatt had confirmation that the Titans are among the teams blowing up the agent's phone.
So who is Webster's primary competition? Already reported to be interested infree-agent guardsBrandon Moore, Kevin Boothe and Ramon Foster, and the Chicago Sun-Times reported Levitre is on the Chicago Bears' radar as well.
Surveying the free-agent landscape, there aren't many teams with salary-cap space and a dire need at guard. One team that qualifies are the Indianapolis Colts, though general manager Ryan Grigson is expected to concentrate on Louis Vasquez due to his ties in the team's front office.
According to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, one of the three teams will be left without a chair when the music stops. The Titans, Colts and Bills each have interest in Levitre and Vasquez, which could leave the loser competing with the Bears for Moore and Foster.
Update: U-T San Diego reported Saturday the San Diego Chargersalso have expressed interest in Levitre.
