Henry Melton concussed in Bears' preseason opener

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton is playing under the franchise tag this season, trying to prove once again that he's worthy of a huge contract extension. But his preseason is off to a discouraging start.

Melton left Friday night's 24-17 loss to the Carolina Panthers with a concussion and didn't return.

Considering Melton's importance to the Bears, we wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play again until the regular season. The team's long snapper, Patrick Mannelly, also left with a rib injury.
