Geno Smith will start for New York Jets vs. Dolphins

Geno Smith hasn't thrown a touchdown pass or topped 160 yards passing in four consecutive games. He's thrown seven interceptions with two fumbles during that span.

But Rex Ryan is not yet ready to pull his rookie quarterback.

The New York Jets will roll into Sunday's huge game against the Miami Dolphins with Smith starting at quarterback, Ryan announced Monday. Ryan said that he wanted to watch some film on the Dolphins before deciding whether or not backup quarterback Matt Simms will receive any first-team reps in practice.

"Right now, I would feel that (Geno) gives us the best chance to win," Ryan said, before pointing out that Smith's pocket awareness" improved in the Jets' loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

Ryan also noted that Smith's teammates are a big part of the problem. The offensive line has been terrible the last few weeks, and Smith has one of the worst collections of weapons in the entire league.

At 5-6, the Jets still are right in the AFC playoff mix. They also are running out of time to find a passing game, and it sounds like Ryan isn't too far away from making a call to the bullpen.
