Frank Gore reportedly to undergo finger surgery

We couldn't help but wonder on the latest podcast what was up with Frank Gore in Sunday's NFC title game loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

The 49ers running back sat for stretches of time during a second half that saw San Francisco lose a 10-point lead for the first time in the Colin Kaepernick era.

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reported Tuesday that Gore will undergo "minor finger surgery" after rushing for just 14 yards on 11 attempts against Seattle's top-ranked defense. Ugly numbers for a bruiser who averaged 70.5 yards per game over 16 starts for the run-heavy Niners.

Gore lost carries to a combination of Kendall Hunter, Anthony Dixon and LaMichael James, who teamed for a whopping 17 yards off six totes. Despite Kaepernick's success on the ground, San Francisco struggled down the stretch without Gore blasting away at Seattle as he did one week earlier against the Carolina Panthers.

The only upside for the 49ers after getting bounced from the party? Their underrated foundation back has plenty of time to heal.

UPDATE: Coach Jim Harbaugh said Tuesday that Gore broke his right ring finger against Seattle.
