EJ Manuel will enter 2014 as Buffalo Bills' starting QB

On one hand, the Buffalo Bills have invested a first-round draft pick in EJ Manuel. On the other hand, Manuel was one of the NFL's biggest liabilities at quarterback this season.

As 2013 winds down, it's fair to wonder if the Bills might bring in quarterback competition to complement a defense and ground attack ready to contend for a playoff spot.

That won't be the case.

Manuel said Monday, via ESPN, that coach Doug Marrone has informed him he will be the starter entering next season.

Asked if he is comfortable with Manuel as the starter, Marrone replied, "Absolutely."

The Bills' situation is similar to that of the Titans entering last offseason. The organization won't mess with a developing quarterback's psyche by undercutting his starting job, but it still makes sense to import a veteran insurance policy along the lines of Ryan Fitzpatrick.
