Dolphins' Ryan Tannehill 'optimistic' he'll play Week 9

The Miami Dolphins are hopeful Ryan Tannehill won't be lost for long.

Jeremiah: Week 8 revelations

Daniel Jeremiah identifies three rising superpowers, an underachiever, an overachiever and a true freak of nature. **More ...**

The rookie quarterback suffered a hyperextended left knee and deep thigh bruise in the first quarter of Sunday's 30-9 win over the New York Jets.

Tannehill underwent an X-ray after the game and is scheduled for an MRI on Monday. Tannehill downplayed the injury and said he could have re-entered the game in a pinch. He's determined to play next Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

"I was optimistic about getting back in the game, and I'm optimistic about getting ready to go next week," Tannehill told Ben Volin of The Palm Beach Post. "I could've gone if it was an emergency situation. (I) was trying to get it loose so I could be good to go, (but) we were up big and (backup quarterback) Matt (Moore) was doing a good job."

Tannehill had his knee twisted on a sack by Jets linebacker Calvin Pace. Trainers fitted the rookie with a brace, and his hobbled steps along the sideline eventually turned into a jog. It wasn't enough to convince the Dolphins he was ready.

"(I) just couldn't get it warmed up all the way where I could bend it, so I didn't want to hurt the team," Tannehill said. "I'm going to do what I can to get it ready to go, get that swelling out of there."
