Hanzus: 'Hard Knocks' recaps

Missed the previous episode of 'Hard Knocks'? Dan Hanzus has you covered with his rundown of all the Dolphins' stories. **More ...**

Let's start with the receivers, the group offensive coordinator Mike Shermancalled a "work in progress."

"It'll continue to be [a work in progress] until we solve that problem. I wouldn't say its been solved. We're working toward it," said Sherman via the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The team picked up Anthony Armstrong over the weekend. Brian Hartline to get back on the field after a long-term injury. The Dolphins might grab Jabar Gaffney off the street. Hard Knocks hero Chris Hogan is stuck on the practice squad.

"It's got to get better for us to be successful," Sherman said.

Some other areas of transition around Dolphins practice Monday included:

» Offensive tackle Jake Longdidn't practice Monday. His status for Week 1 is uncertain. Long's most logical replacement John Jerry is also hurt. It's hard to imagine a tougher first test for Miami than to face the Texans defense.

» David Garrard figures to be a prominent part of the final "Hard Knocks." He returned to the practice field Monday, though he participated in drills on a limited basis. We're still a little amazed Garrard and Matt Moore are on the team. It wouldn't be a shock if that changed by the end of the week.

Garrard himself isn't aware of the Dolphins' plans at quarterback.

"I honestly don't even know what's going on," Garrard said, according to The Associated Press. "There are still enough teams in this league to play for if it is not here. But I'm excited about here. I'm excited about being on this team, and hopefully I'll still be here."

» HBO announced Clyde Gates and Isaako Aaitui will be featured heavily in the season finale of "Hard Knocks."
