The Philadelphia Eagles never were comfortable with tailback Dion Lewis, a fifth-round draft pick in 2011, as the primary backup to LeSean McCoy. Despite an experience edge on Bryce Brown, he was banished to the bottom of the depth chart last season.
Now the new regime is moving on. NFL sources tell the Philadelphia Inquirer that Lewis is on the trade block leading up to the 2013 NFL Draft.
The writing was on the wall when coach Chip Kelly specifically mentioned McCoy, Brown and Chris Polk in his backfield plans while leaving out Lewis' name.
The Inquirer hints that the 5-foot-7 Lewis is viewed as too small for Kelly's system. It's a bit of a surprise considering similar-sized backs such as Kenjon Barner and De'Anthony Thomas excelled at Oregon the past two years.
