Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reported the Bucs aren't wasting any time on that front, dispatching a private plane Tuesday to fetch free-agent safety Dashon Goldson in California. The Bucs hope to reach a long-term agreement with the former San Francisco 49ers defender in a deal that could be announced as early as Wednesday, according to Stroud.

The newspaper points out the Bucs employed the same private-plane treatment to lure free agents Vincent Jackson, Carl Nicks and Eric Wright a year ago.

Goldson would bring immediate moxie to a secondary that bled yardage in 2012, forming an interesting safety duo with second-year pro Mark Barron.

Playing in the Bucs' favor is a positive salary-cap situation, which allows the team to potentially pay Goldson handsomely, re-sign Ronde Barber and find additional help at cornerback. The Bucs aren't sitting still on defensive needs.
