Charles questionable, expected to play vs. Steelers

Jamaal Charles' return to game action is near.

The Chiefs running back is listed as questionable for Sunday night's game against the Steelers but is expected to play, a source informed of the team's plans told NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. With Charcandrick West ruled out, Charles is expected to be eased back into playing action behind running back Spencer Ware, Rapoport added.

Charles has yet to play this season after being ruled doubtful the first three weeks as he completed his recovery from a torn ACL.

Charles returned to practice Wednesday after two weeks working with the scout team. The Chiefs' back hasn't played in a game since Week 5 of the 2015 season.

Cornerback Phillip Gaines (knee) and pass rusher Tamba Hali are also questionable, while West (ankle) and tackle Jah Reid (ankle) will sit out the potential playoff preview.
