Carson Palmer, Drew Stanton limited in Cards' practice

It's anyone's guess who starts under center for the Cardinalsthis Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

Coach Bruce Arians told reporters that third-string rookie quarterback Logan Thomas will take first-team reps in practice on Wednesday while on-the-mend Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton will be limited, per the team's official website.

Stanton has yet to be fully cleared from the concussion he suffered in Sunday's loss to the Broncos, but the plan is to have both the backup and Palmer throw on Wednesday.

Arians also expressed hope that Palmer -- after missing the past three games with a nerve issue in his shoulder -- will practice fully on Thursday or Friday. The coach told reporters that Palmer has thrown more passes over the past couple of days than at any time during his recovery, including lobs of up to 40 yards.

The banged-up Cardinals are in hot water if Thomas is thrust into action. Despite his intriguing preseason play, Thomas was out-of-tune on Sunday, dimming the glow of his 81-yard scoring strike to Andre Ellington with misfires on his seven other attempts.

Palmer's progress is encouraging, but it remains a mystery if he -- or Stanton -- will be healthy enough to suit up on Sunday. Thursday and Friday's sessions will give us our answer.
