Bill Belichick evasive about Aaron Hernandez's status

The New England Patriots are doing a good job keeping us guessing about if Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez will return to the field Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks.

Brooks: Patriots grounded

The pass-happy Patriots suddenly have a potent ground attack. Bucky Brooks says this should terrify league foes. **More ...**

Hernandez's bags were spotted as packed for the game. The Patriots probably wouldn't bring Hernandez to the West Coast unless he was going to play. Then again, Hernandez wasn't spotted at the start of practice Friday. He has been listed as "limited" four of the last five practices and still could get in some work. Hernandez did sit out Friday.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick said Hernandez's status "could be a game-time decision." Belichick also said there's a chance the team will know sooner. So basically he didn't say much.

"We'll just have to see how it goes. I don't know," Belichick said, via ESPNBoston.com.

We're cautiously optimistic Hernandez will play based on everything we've heard and read this week, but we probably won't know until Sunday afternoon.

UPDATE: Hernandez has been officially listed as questionable for Sunday on the Patriots' injury report.
