Andy Reid officially Kansas City Chiefs coach

The Kansas City Chiefs made it official Friday night, finalizing a deal to make Andy Reid their new head coach.

The Chiefs provided visual proof by tweeting out an image of a mustachioed man with beefy hands signing what we presume to be a contract. Romeo Crennel and Scott Pioli are out. Reid is in. A new era in Chiefs football.

The Chiefs will introduce Reid on Monday at a 1 p.m. CT news conference.

Reid signed a five-year contract, The Associated Press reported, citing two sources familiar with the situation.

Philadelphia Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie -- who fired Reid on Monday after 14 seasons with the team -- wished the coach well in a statement released by the team.

"Congratulations to Clark Hunt and the Kansas City Chiefs for hiring a good man and a good coach," Lurie said. "We wish Andy, Tammy and their entire family all the best in their new home."

As Gregg Rosenthal pointed out, Hunt, the Chiefs' chairman, has gone from putting all his trust in Pioli to taking the same leap of faith with Reid.

The new coach inherits a team with five Pro Bowl players, not to mention the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft. The Chiefs are coming off the grotesqueries associated with 2-14, but elements are in place for a quick turnaround.
