AJ McCarron placed on Cincinnati Bengals' NFI list

Cincinnati Bengals rookie quarterback AJ McCarron's shoulder tightness has not subsided.

The team announced Saturday that McCarron will miss at least the first six games of the season on the reserve/non-football injury list.

The former Alabama star missed training camp and the majority of offseason practices while battling shoulder soreness. McCarron was throwing 55 to 65 yards earlier this month, but the Bengals didn't want him to put stress on the shoulder by practicing.

Drafted in the fifth round, McCarron was fully expected to spend his rookie season watching from the sideline as veteran Jason Campbell backs up Andy Dalton.
