Lamar Jackson isn't the only Baltimore player excited about the addition of Jaire Alexander.
With the signing of Alexander on Wednesday following his release from the Green Bay Packers, Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey is excited about Baltimore adding the two-time Pro Bowler.
"A quote that's never been said and probably will never be said in NFL history is, 'We got too many corners that can cover,'" Humphrey said this week, via the team website. "I think that's a great problem to have. Really excited for that addition. The options are endless. It's going to be a fun secondary."
Alexander's decision to sign with Baltimore reunites him with Jackson, who was his former college teammate at Louisville from 2015-2017. He spent his first seven seasons in the NFL with Green Bay.
The options for first-year defensive coordinator Zach Orr are there at his disposal. Orr takes over the defense after former DC Mike MacDonald was hired to become the Seattle Seahawks head coach.
Baltimore's current secondary room is highlighted by Alexander, Humphrey, Chidobe Awuzie, Kyle Hamilton, Nate Wiggins and 2025 first-round pick Malaki Starks. If Alexander can stay healthy, he and Wiggins line up on the outside and Humphrey in the slot provides a solid trio at the cornerback position.
"Great addition," Hamilton said of Alexander's signing. "He's been one of the best in this league since he got in it. To have anybody like that, no matter what position, especially as a DB, it's super valuable."
Alexander can be valuable for Baltimore, but his availability will determine that. Over the last two seasons, Alexander has played 14 games due to multiple injuries in his back, groin, shoulder and knee. He did not suit up in Green Bay's final eight games in 2024, including its Wild Card Round loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Baltimore's move to sign Alexander could pay dividends down the stretch of the 2025 season, but the veteran CB can get to work with his new club and teammates when training camp begins on July 22.
