Mike Smith has no concerns about job security

The Atlanta Falcons suffered the largest blown lead in franchise history Sunday when they let a 21-point lead slip through their hands against the Lions in London.

The loss was the Falcons' fifth straight after a 2-1 start to the season.

The loss in London left Atlanta owner Arthur Blank exasperated, declaring, "There's no way you lose that game -- just no way."

The team's uninspired play combined with Blank's comment has led to questions about Smith's future with the franchise.

On Monday, Smith said he has no concerns about his job security. "None whatsoever," he said, per ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure.

Smith didn't say whether there would be any personnel moves during the team's bye week and said he's confident in the team's coaching structure.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport weighed in on Smith's job security on Around The NFL on Monday, saying he'd "be extremely surprised if there was a coaching change during the bye week."

"In fact," Rapoport added, "what I'm told is Arthur Blank is going to sit down after the season and evaluate Mike Smith, evaluate general manager Thomas Dimitroff. Both of those people got one-year extensions last year, signaling a make-or-break year. It is clear emotions are very raw in Atlanta. Nobody is happy with the way this situation has transpired, but there will be, from what I understand, no dramatic move until maybe after the season."

Smith, in his seventh season leading Atlanta, steadfastly believes his team will go on a run to get back into the playoff race.

"We're a 2-6 football team, but that's not a 2-6 locker room," Smith said. "We're just trying to get a streak and get one."

Since 1990 (when the NFL expanded playoffs) no team that has ever started 2-6 has made the playoffs. The Falcons benefit from playing in the terrible NFC South, where no team currently holds even a .500 record.

With an offensive line in shambles and a limp-noodle defense, the Falcons don't appear to have the talent to turn their season around. The question is whether they will do enough to give Smith another season as the team's head coach.

Right now, it's not looking good.
