Jake Long signs with Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons' blockers held their own as the offense racked up 244 yards in the first half of Monday night's opener versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

Even with that impressive showing, the offensive line got reinforcements Tuesday.

Former Dolphins and Rams tackle Jake Long signed with Atlanta, the team announced.

The first-overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draftworked out for the Falcons last week. Long is finally ready to suit up after Dr. James Andrews cleared him for action following last October's ACL tear.

Although last year's first-round pick, Jake Matthews, is holding down left tackle, a healthy Long should push Ryan Schraeder on the right side.

At the very least, the 30-year-old offers veteran insurance with 96 career starts under his belt.
