Cincinnati Bengals sign NFLPA president Eric Winston

To negate the loss of Andre Smith, who was recently placed on season-ending injured reserve with a triceps injury, the Cincinnati Bengals have signed Eric Winston.

Winston confirmed the news himself on Twitter, and it sounds like the acting NFLPA president is excited to get back on the field.

The team later announced the signing.

Winston, 31, was in camp with the Seattle Seahawks this season but was cut before the opener. The nine-year veteran should help bring some momentary stability to a Bengals team reeling from the loss of one of their best players. Marshall Newhouse has struggled in the role since Smith left the lineup.

Winston was viewed as one of the best tackles in football just three years ago but has yet to regain that same consistency. The Bengals hope that a season of rest will aid in that process.
