NFL Media's Albert Breer reports that the Broncosdon't plan to address the contract situations of the tight end or receiver before the end of the 2014 season, per a club source. The team hasn't had talks about new contracts with the two offensive stars since August and agreed to pick those talks up prior to free agency.
ESPN first reported no in-season deals would take place for the receiving duo.
"We've had the (financial) flexibility because of the young guys we've had," general manager John Elway told NFL Media on Wednesday. "We're running into it now, but that's where you wanna be -- you have good players, and you have to make decisions. That only happens when you have talent, and this offseason, we'll have some tough decisions to make."
The Broncos will have a window between the end of the season and free agency to hammer out deals with their young studs prior to the players hitting the market.
Elway could end up slapping the franchise tag on one Thomas if a deal isn't done before free agency. Both would be highly sought-after young talents if they were to hit the open market. Denver will have to pay to keep their talents in the Mile High City.
