Less than a year after dealing tight end Tim Wright to the Patriots, the Buccaneers have brought him back off the waiver wire, the team announced Friday.
The 25-year-old caught six touchdowns for the Patriots a year ago after coming over in a trade that sent guard Logan Mankins to Tampa Bay for Wright and a fourth-round pick.
As Rob Gronkowski's primary understudy, Wright was also a solid blocker and got on the field for more than 350 snaps.
While Wright did play at Rutgers, a program near and dear to Bill Belichick's heart, he probably wasn't going to keep a roster spot over Scott Chandler, the productive veteran from Buffalo who signed with New England in March.
Last year's trade will go down as a clear indication of how Belichick was feeling about Mankins and his bloated salary at the time, as Wright did not end up in the coach's long-term plans.Â
Then again, with Belichick it's hard to predict any long-term plans.
